三坊七巷，始建与西晋末年，八姓入闽之际，唐代“安史之乱”后，南迁避难的人们聚居于此，形成了一个以士大夫阶层、文化人为主要居住民的街区，至今还保留着明清时期的建筑风貌。她占地约40公顷，三坊七巷地处市中心，东临八一七北路，西靠通湖路，北接杨桥路，南达吉庇巷、光禄坊，是老福州城的社会名流聚居区之一，人杰地灵。林则徐，左宗棠，郑孝胥，陈宝琛，邓拓，严复，甘国宝，冰心，林觉民，沈葆祯等近现代名人的故居，镶嵌其中。
其实改建过后的三坊七巷差强人意，虽然粉刷一新，但是历史的味道已经全部消失不见，反而像搞得像乌镇一样的不伦不类。
